Experts: Sunday is the busiest day of the year for online dating – WJBF-TV
It’s called “Dating Sunday” or “Singles Sunday”.
Cyber-dating experts tell USA Today that Sunday, January 6th is the busiest day of the year for online dating.
“It’s the perfect trifecta,” said Julie Spira, author of “The Perils of Cyber-Dating”. “You have people recovering from a breakup or who were down during the Holidays. You have all of those New Year’s resolutions and you have the clock ticking down to Valentine’s Day. It’s the first lonely Holiday after the New Year.”
Experts say online dating activity increases up to 75 percent on “Dating Sunday”.

If you’ve been thinking about dusting off your online dating profile, Sunday might be an opportune time to do it.
According to online dating platforms like Match, Tinder, Hinge, Bumble and Coffee Meets Bagel, Jan. 6 is the busiest day of the year for online dating. In fact, it’s earned the name Dating Sunday.
Match is expecting a 69 percent spike in new singles joining up Sunday compared to the previous two months. In 2018, Coffee Meets Bagel saw a 75 percent increase compared to the previous 30 days. Also last year Tinder had a 41 percent jump in downloads from the week before.
“Dating Sunday is Hinge’s Black Friday,” said a spokesperson for Hinge.
Sundays in general see higher traffic than other days of the week, Hinge also said. But what’s so special about Dating Sunday — Jan. 6, in particular?
“The holidays inspire singles to reboot their dating life after navigating questions from friends and family about their relationship status and reflecting on their own personal goals,” said a spokesperson for Match.
In other words, the family hassled you big-time about your singlehood and you decided that 2019 is going to be different, dammit.
New year, new love.
With that mindset, CMB found that daters are 17 percent more likely to get a match, and 16 percent more likely to actually chat with that match on Dating Sunday. Match said it expects more than 1.5 million messages will be sent. Along those lines, last year Hinge found that 59 percent more daters started conversations than in the week before.
While online dating is not a new practice, more and more people are embracing the idea of turning to online services to find anything from a hookup to a serious relationship. The Statistic Brain Research Institute found that more than 90 percent of the US’ 54.3 million singles have tried online dating.
If you’re planning to look for love this Sunday, also check out CNET’s guide to supercharging your online dating profile, including such tips as backing off the selfies, posing with dogs and making sure people can actually see your face in at least one of your photos. Seriously. Tinder found wearing sunglasses reduces your chances of getting a swipe right by 12 percent.

Jade Slavin Instagram: Team GB athlete and model admits dating struggles | Daily Star – Daily Star

Jade Slavin, 26, has represented her country in taekwondo and now works in the sport as a coach as well as being a letting negotiator.
The County Durham native says she spent years hating her height thanks to bullies who would poke fun out of her, calling her “ugly” and “a freak”.
Jade would often go home in tears to her mum, Catherine, thanks to cruel kids and strangers who would whisper about her in the street and try to take photos without her knowing.
But at 16 she decided to try modelling to boost her body confidence and her mindset soon changed for good when she was offered a place to represent Team GB in taekwondo at the age of 21.

“I like boys to be the same height or taller than me and there aren’t many tall boys in my area”
Jade Slavin
She went on to win the Commonwealth championships in Glasgow in 2014, making two world championships and European championships.
It soon became clear to Jade that her height contributed to her success in the sport as she had the leg length that other athletes longed for.
Now Jade is proud of who she is and no longer slouches in photos with her friends nor looks down when she is walking down the street.
However, she admits that she sometimes struggles to find clothes to fit her gorgeous 49.9-inch long outside legs and men to date who are a similar height to her as there aren’t many tall guys in her area.
She said: “One of the main struggles I face is finding clothes to fit my extremely long legs. Not many shops offer tall sections and if they do there is not much choice.
“Another struggle is dating as I like boys to be the same height or taller than me and there aren’t many tall boys in my area.
“Lastly, probably learning to love my height as it’s taken me all my life to be confident and embrace my height.
“After many years of hating myself and feeling so down I am finally happy with my body and appearance.”

The bullies and name-calling did get her down when she was younger.
She said: “I’ve had many horrible comments over the years from girls whispering, ‘I’d hate to be that tall’ to getting jokes about my height whenever I got out to a bar or pub which isn’t too bad but when you hear the same joke constantly, it does become annoying.
“I’ve been called ugly, a freak and had people say, ‘you’re actually quite pretty for being so tall’ which is kind of a backhanded compliment.
“Before if I had received these negative comments, I would be upset for days after and thinking why am I different and hating myself.
“I hated being tall and different. I just wanted to be like every other girl who can wear heels and not get strange looks and whispering comments all the time.
“But since I joined Team GB, I was proud of who I am and representing my country.
“I was proud to be tall as I would not have been where I was if I was not tall.
“It brought me a lot of success and now when people make comments in the street and think I can’t hear them I just smile at them and it makes them feel a bit silly that I heard them.

“But most of the time people make nice comments and are amazed by my height.”
For Jade, being tall has contributed to her success as a Team GB athlete in taekwondo, after loving all sports from football and netball to athletics and swimming growing up.
It also means that she can always reach things that others can’t and gets the best view at concerts.
Finally, Jade gave her words of advice to others who might feel insecure about their height.

“I am still learning to love myself but I am a lot more confident in myself and don’t slouch in photos with my friends any more, I stand tall in photos and hold my head up when I’m walking down the street as before I would often look down and try to go unnoticed,” she said.
“Don’t ever let anyone bring you down. I spent so much time hating myself and would cry to my mam wishing I was ‘normal’.
“But embrace being different. It has brought me so much success being tall which I would not have achieved if I was smaller.
“Embrace who you are and don’t let anybody dull your sparkle.”

That’s because more than HALF of all UK singletons see the turn of the year as the best time to find romance.
Vicki Pavitt, from online dating agency Match, which carried out the survey, said: “New Year is symbolic as it gives the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start afresh.”
Today we have compiled your definitive guide to making 2019 the year to be on cloud nine when it comes to relationships — with advice from experts on how to succeed online and when meeting face to face.
Sinead Jones turned down a chance to go on Love Island after she met her cheating-ex

- Likes: Nights out with her friends
- Dislikes: Men who cheat
- Sinead says: “I’m really looking for lasting love, not just a throwaway fling”
The Sun on Sunday also meets some singletons who are on the hunt for romance.
Research reveals the average Brit will go on NINE dates before meeting “The One” while more than a third of under-40s have tried online dating but found it did not work for them.
Match’s survey found app users typically scroll through 43 profiles and contact half of them.
Logging on in the hope of finding love tonight will be KRIS WEDDERBURN, a part-time stripper and American Football player from Dudley, West Mids.
Samantha Scott, 46, psychic medium, from Swindon, calls herself “a bit of a cougar” and says she needs a younger guy to keep up with her hectic lifestyle. Sam, mum to two teenage girls, has been single for 11 years. She says: “I need someone with plenty of drive and energy, so younger is better – maybe around 32 to 35. I can’t be doing with insecure men. I’m a strong, self-made woman and some men see me as their meal ticket – they can jog on!”
The Anthony Joshua-lookalike has to fight women off when he is performing with exotic dance troupe The Pleasure Boys — but he has struggled to find lasting love because of his job.
Kris, 23, who has been single for two years, said: “It’s been so long since I had a girlfriend, that I feel like I’ve stopped looking.
“Eventually I would like to get married and have kids and I want a nice girl I can bring home to my mum.
“The problem is, the down-to-earth girls I like never take me seriously because of my job.
Tony Knight, 52, divorced London executive Tony is heading to the convention after growing tired of trying to meet women on the internet. Single since his break-up four years ago, he said: “One woman said she would turn up in a Fiat 500. When she arrived, she was the size of a Fiat 500 and looked completely different to her profile pictures. I told her we weren’t compatible. I’m an old-fashioned gent at heart and am looking forward to meeting ladies face to face”
“They always think I’m going to mess about or cheat.
“Women throw themselves at me at my shows, but it’s not the right attention.
“They’re usually drunk and they have boyfriends or husbands. I want someone who can see past what I do for a living.
“I just want someone I can cuddle up to on the sofa and watch EastEnders with.”

- Age: 23
- Occupation: Stripper and American Football player
- Likes: EastEnders, the gym, dancing
- Dislikes: Boring first dates

SINEAD JONES turned down a chance to go on Love Island after meeting her Essex-boy ex — who then cheated on her during a two-year relationship.
She said: “I applied for the show a few years ago and the producers asked to meet me.
“I could have been one of the girls looking for love in the Majorcan villa.
“But then I met my ex and turned down the programme. Two years later he did the dirty on me and I also found out he was signed up to escort websites and was on Tinder. It really knocked my confidence, it was dreadful. But now I’m ready to put myself back out there.”
Cheryl Bray, 37, single mum, from Newcastle, claims her good looks scare off potential dates. The cleaner said: “Men on dating apps tell me I’m too intimidating and say they would never approach me in a bar. They think I’m high maintenance, but I’m very down-to-earth and don’t wear false lashes and nails.” Son Kayden, seven, wants his mum to find her Prince Charming, but Cheryl is not sure he exists. She adds: “People are too flighty these days”
Single since January last year, Sinead, 28, a personal assistant from Birmingham, says she has only met “weirdos” online so far and that dating apps are not for her.
She said: “Sometimes with them you’re judging people by photos and by a small bio and they are often very different in real life.
“Whereas you meet someone in the flesh and straight away you get the first impression of whether they’re right for you.”
Kris and Sinead will both be hoping to find “The One” this summer at The Dating Show Live at the NEC Birmingham, where a world record-breaking 10,000 singletons will be meeting under one roof.

Organiser Angela Watson, 53, said: “A start of a new year is the signal to many singles, and with Valentine’s Day charging towards us like a luxury steam train full of delight, we don’t want to be left at the station, not for another year.
“The hope and promise that a new relationship gives is far too tempting and whereas many singles would be a little more fussy, many just think, ‘It’s the new year — I’m going for it’.”
On these pages we meet some of the other singletons looking for love in 2019 and give you top tips to make dating a success.

MATCHMAKER Lara Asprey, founder of Asprey Introductions, gives her top tips for a night out.
- Arrive a little early – nowadays “fashionably late” is just plain rude.
- Relax and flirt. A date is meant to be fun so don’t take it or yourself too seriously.
- Make an effort. If you look and feel your best you are going to show your best side – it is that simple.
- Embody eligibility. Act like a catch and you will be more likely to attract one.
- Offer to split the bill even if your date offers to pay. Typically, a guy should pay for the first date, but it’s always polite for a woman to offer to at least pay half.
