A DIAMOND couple say never letting the sun go down on an argument and an “occasional whisky” are the key to a happy marriage.

Glennis and William Skipsey met at a dance at Hull University in 1957 where Mr Skipsey said he noticed his wife because she was taller than the other girls.

The couple fell in love and married a year later on November 29, 1958, in their hometown of Hull.

They went on to have three children, Richard, Jane and Lesley and moved to York and London before settling in Barnard Castle to raise the children in 1972.

The adventurous couple also lived in France for 20 years before moving to Middleton-in-Teesdale in 2012.

Mr Skipsey, 88, said he had many fond memories and said he looked forward to the next ten years with his wife, 82.

The couple received a special card from the Queen and celebrated with family.
