Giving a Damn About My Appearance Rescued My Marriage

There’s no shortage of pointers about how to make sure your marriage doesn’t turn stagnant after kids come along. Communicate often. Prioritize your partner. Make date night a regular occurrence. Don’t neglect sex. While these are all useful, research-backed pieces of advice for making a marriage feel healthy and fresh, they’re also a bit abstract. So, we decided to ask real couples: How do you keep it sexy-ish? That is, what do you and your partner do to stay close, connected, and, well, just into one another? For Akin Toyali, 42, who lives in Chicago, it all came down to skincare. One day, he realized he had no idea how to take care of himself and so he learned. By taking care of himself, he developed more confidence in himself — and his marriage.

I had this realization recently that I had gotten sloppy. I just got comfortable in my marriage. But I started realizing that I have so many more years ahead of me and still want to have fun. Most, importantly, my wife deserves to see a better me. So I decided to make an effort with my grooming and it’s really improved my marriage.

It started with my skin. About six months ago, I realized I was really bad at taking care of my skin. The only time I ever took care of my face was when I was in the shower and used whatever soap was available. But I applied to work for a company that sells skincare for men and it kind of dawned on me that men have no idea what they’re doing. Nobody sits them down and says: here is the proper way to wash your face. You know?

I’m 42 years old, and I started to learn about skin care for the first time. My regimen is really very simple. Twice a day, in the morning and before I go to bed, I wash my face. And then, in the mornings I put on, usually, an acne cream, and then an A.M. moisturizer. Right before I go to bed, I wash my face, then I use a firming serum to brighten up the wrinkles around my eyes, use an eye cream, and then I use some acne cream, and again, the P.M. moisturizer to finish it off.

It’s really helped. My face used to be very oily, and it’s just not like that anymore. Two weeks ago, my wife was talking to one of her friends who was visiting us. She said: “I feel like I have a new husband now.” She looks at me every day.  And now she’s really noticing me taking care of myself.

The skin care regimen really created a domino effect. I used to wear all of my polo’s in XL. I was like, why am I wearing these baggy shirts? I started dressing like I give a damn.

People at work have come to me saying, “Have you lost weight?” No, I haven’t lost weight, but I am dressing better. I’m not wearing baggy jeans anymore. I’m not wearing loose polo shirts anymore. And it’s because I feel good about myself and my wife feels good about me. These small things made this massive difference in how my wife and I feel about each other.

But I don’t just do it because I want to feel sexy. I also want to be healthy. When I feel healthy, I feel good about myself, and when I feel good about myself, it boosts my confidence. My wife has totally noticed it, that I’ve got a kick in my step. I became more confident in our marriage, too, just over something so small as eye cream.

The other day, my wife was kind of smiling about my routine. She wasn’t sure if I would stick with it and she’s surprised I have. It’s become a new routine for us, too, at night and in the morning. And it’s kind of fun. It’s one more thing that we get to talk about. I’m still not going to talk to my friends about it — but I’ll definitely talk to my wife about it and that’s fun. It’s sexy.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber are definitely married: Alec Baldwin

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin are married, her uncle Alec Baldwin has confirmed.

The pop superstar and 21-year-old model Hailey sparked rumours they may have tied the knot in secret when they were seen leaving a registry office in New York last week. And while Hailey hit Twitter to deny the speculation, her actor relative Alec – brother of her father Stephen – let the cat out of the bag as he attended the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards on Monday night.

“They just went off and got married,” Alec told Access Hollywood on the red carpet of the Los Angeles event. “I don’t know what the deal is.”

The former 30 Rock star added that he’s only met Sorry singer Justin once, but has some advice for newlywed Hailey considering his own happy marriage to wife Hilaria.

“We text Hailey every now and then,” Alec continued. “We met him one time but as I said you know when you get married you know I mean I think it works best if you can really be together. Like you hook your schedules up where you can really be with each other cause we make all of our decisions around.”

However, Alec won’t be talking to Justin about any advice he may want to share – as he wants to leave that up to Hailey’s dad Stephen.

“She has a dad and I’m sure he has a few paragraphs about that himself so I’m not worried (about giving Justin a talking to),” Alec smiled.

Justin and Hailey were overheard dropping several hints about a wedding as they visited the Marriage Bureau at the New York City Clerk’s Office last week.

But Hailey insisted the fuss was all about nothing, taking to Twitter on Friday to write: “I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet.”

The pair are currently in London, as Hailey debuted her first collection for Adidas at a catwalk show during London Fashion Week on Monday. The model was announced as the first ever “style creator” for Adidas and sportswear company JD back in July.

The Simple Game That Ramped Up Our Sex Life

There’s no shortage of pointers about how to make sure your marriage doesn’t turn stagnant after kids come along. Communicate often. Prioritize your partner. Make date night a regular occurrence. Don’t neglect sex. While these are all useful, research-backed pieces of advice for making a marriage feel healthy and fresh, they’re also a bit abstract. So, we decided to ask real couples: How do you keep it sexy-ish? That is, what do you and your partner do to stay close, connected, and, well, just into one another? For Derrico, 38, who lives in Oklahoma, a regular game of “Truth Or Dare No Consequences” helps he and his wife be open, honest, and try new things.

My wife and I played “Truth or Dare” within the first few weeks of meeting each other. At that point, we were just looking for ways to get each other naked or discover honest things about one another. Once we got married, she and I both realized that there were things we didn’t do anymore, and we didn’t really know why. One night, we said, let’s just play “Truth or Dare” again, except this time, let’s play with no consequences. If it’s “Truth,” we had a solemn promise that if we said something that either hurt or we hadn’t expected from that point, going forward, there would be no consequences.

It made a really safe space for the both of us to communicate. It actually made us increase our attraction to each other, too. The “Dare” portion is great because we’re able to explore things sexually that we may not have before. I think the funniest thing was when my wife dared me to go next door. I’m retired Navy — we lived on base for a long time— and she dared me to tell my neighbor, “Hey, if you don’t mind, I’m going to be screwing the hell out of my wife for the next 45 minutes — you might want to leave.” She just dared me to do that. I did. Even if I didn’t say it, I’m pretty sure he would have left anyway.

Another rule we have is to never turn down a truth or a dare. It increases that safe space. But our rule is that we can turn something down if we believe that it’ll hurt us after. So, it helps increase the level of trust between the two of us. When we do think we’ll turn something down, we provide alternate options. We want to give each other as many open doors as we can get.

It’s the most fun version of maintenance conversations we can possibly have. I would equate it to a guy working on his truck and drinking a few beers while he’s doing it. You have to do it, you love doing it, and it’s fun, too.

What I’ve learned is that my wife won’t give herself to me mentally, spiritually, emotionally, or physically if she doesn’t trust me. When we broke down this wall, by playing this game, that freed her up. There are a lot of things that make it easy for women to be stifled in their marriage. Trust is definitely one of them. It’s a stealth assassin. You may not even know that you’ve lost it, but you’ll eventually wind up seeing it when it’s too late.

The game made us realize how much we trusted each other. With the game, there was no condemnation, and we could really get into it. Also, these days, although we still play the game, we don’t necessarily need to say the words, “Truth or Dare, no consequences,” to speak the truth. We have just started having these moments of transparency with one another.

The game opened the floodgates in a really good way. I prefer the truth part of the game over the dare part; it lends itself to a lot of dares. The truth part is the exploratory and research portion of the game. That’s where you can suss out all of the things that your spouse will or will not do. Right then and there you can get every dare you can think of out of that one truth.  I think my wife enjoys the dare portion more, as long as she’s the one that’s doing the daring. She likes to think of a lot of strange things to make me do — and the fact that I will do them no questions asked and very rarely do I ask for an alternate — I think that’s quite a turn on for her.

Our sex life is just so much more important and valuable. It’s not just a release of tension, or something that we’re just doing. It’s something that we value as a tool. What my wife and I have learned in 16 years is that you definitely want to shake up your marriage in the best way possible: be it sexually, emotionally, mentally. We try not to be complacent because complacency is death to a marriage. We love switching things up as often as we can.

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin “Went Off and Got Married,” According to Alec Baldwin

The confusion over Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber’s marriage status (or lack thereof) continues. But perhaps the model’s uncle, Alec Baldwin, can clear the air.

“Well, they went off and got married,” he told Access during an Emmys red carpet interview last night, per Cosmopolitan.

“And I don’t know what the deal is because we text Hailey every now and then, we met him [Bieber] one time,” Baldwin added before offering the rumored newlyweds some marriage advice.

“But as I said, you know, when you get married, I think it works best if you could really be together, like you hook your schedules up where you can really be together,” he continued.

He also revealed that he hasn’t given Bieber a stern sit-down about marrying his niece. “That’s not my job. She has a dad,” he said, referring to his brother Stephen Baldwin. “And I’m sure he has a few paragraphs about that, so I’m not worried.”

Hailey, 21, previously told The Cut that her family isn’t against her marrying at a young age, since her sister and parents did the same thing.

“I said to them, ‘You’d stop me if you didn’t think this was the right decision, right? And they didn’t,” she told the site. “I think they love him more than me!”

Hailey and Justin were reportedly seen at a marriage license courthouse last Thursday. Following the outing, People reported that the couple secretly exchanged vows during the visit, but the model refuted the reports on Twitter, saying she’s “not married yet.” But then she deleted the tweet.
