^’I can get up every day and feel good about what I’m doing.’ St. Louis bakery offers felons work, second chances<
^LIFE-BAKER-FELONS:SL—<Bakers at a small downtown shop here need not have prior kitchen experience. Just a felony record.
Laughing Bear Bakery founder Kalen McAllister never asks job candidates what landed them behind bars. She just hopes her growing nonprofit can keep them from going back by providing above-minimum-wage pay, a place to learn job skills and build a work history, and a support network to lean on in tough times.
“I don’t care what they did in the past,” said McAllister, 66, a Buddhist priest and retired chaplain at the Farmington Correctional Center. “I only care what they do this day forward.”

Howard Gyler, owner of Garland-based Gyler Management Inc., said he has negotiated a deal in which he will pay one year’s advance rent, nearly $11,000, for Chappell to live and run his programs at the Villas at Sierra Vista apartments, located at the southeast corner of Las Vegas Trail and Calmont Avenue.

^Health summit offers parolees a chance to ease back into society<
^HEALTH-SUMMIT-PAROLEES:TB—<The sales pitch — mostly two main questions and a promise — was similar for each of the hundreds who filed past the vendor’s table.
“Are you working? Do you need a job? We can get you one.”
Still, the resource expo held recently at Painters District Council No. 30 on Sequoia Drive in Aurora was hardly typical. For one thing, the event was billed as a Summit of Health. And most of the 30-plus vendors were, indeed, from groups that dealt with mental illness, substance abuse and anger management.
But the expo also connected those attending to other community resources necessary to be healthy in mind and body all of which are critical to these 350 invited guests, as the summit was sponsored by the Illinois Department of Corrections for parolees and probationers to help them assimilate back into society.

Six ways to give your dating life a new lease of life, according to an expert
Finding love has never been easy. And you would think in a world of dating apps, speed dating, and social media, things would be easier. But it’s made things a lot more complicated.
You have to make a dating profile, pick a suitable profile picture, write a bio and you still have to deal with meeting people in real life. It can all be a bit much, so to make things a little easier we spoke to Claire Certain, Head of Trends at dating app Happn to give advice on things you can to make dating easier.
1. Change your mindset
Going on one too many bad dates can really make you see dating negatively. So it’s time to change this mindset, and start over. See every date as a new beginning and although it might be hard, try not to take the negatives of the last date onto the new date.
2. Try something new
Get out there! Yes, everyone says this, but it happens to be true. And it can be a little annoying to hear, but seriously get out there.
Join a new gym, find a new gallery to visit, or try a different jogging route- just do something to get you a little out of your usual day to day. Even the smallest shifts in routine can inspire you to be open to new opportunities.
3. Don’t take it too seriously
Not every person you meet will be ‘the one’, so be realistic. Dating should be fun, not a chore.
Take each person as they come, without the expectation of meeting the perfect match. It lightens the mood on the date and takes away the pressure, leaving you both to enjoy each other’s company.

4. Talk to your friends about it
There’s a good chance you’re not the only single person you know, so talk to your friends about it. Ask them what’s worked for them, and see how you can fit that into your dating routine.
5. Be clear about your expectations
If you’re not feeling your date after a drink or two, don’t drag the night out.
Stay true to yourself and be honest with your date. You both deserve to have a great time and letting someone down gently can be the nicest thing you could do.
6. Spend some time on yourself
Treating yourself and making sure you are feeling like your top self can do wonders when it comes to dating.
Go shopping, get a massage, or spend the day enjoying the early sun. Whatever you decide to do, just take some time out for you.
